Attic Spray Foam Insulation
Is your home too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter? Poor attic insulation and air leakage are often the cause. Enviro Safe Foam Insulation provides professional attic spray foam insulation services throughout Central Massachusetts to help improve comfort and energy efficiency year-round.
Upgrade Your Attic Insulation & Lower Energy Bills
Proper attic insulation plays a major role in maintaining a comfortable home while helping control heating and cooling costs. When insulation and air sealing are inadequate, conditioned air escapes and outside temperatures can affect the living space below.
Signs You Need Better Attic Insulation
- Higher than expected energy bills
- Uneven temperatures throughout your home
- Ice dams forming on the roof during winter
- Excessive heat building up in the attic during summer
- Moisture or mold issues in the attic
- Mice or rodent activity in existing insulation
Why We Often Recommend Insulating the Roof Deck
In many homes, insulation is traditionally installed along the attic floor, separating the living space below but leaving the attic itself outside of the building envelope. In these situations, the attic can experience significant temperature fluctuations, and any HVAC ductwork located there must operate in extremely hot or cold conditions.
In many situations we recommend insulating along the roof deck using spray foam. This creates a conditioned attic space, bringing the attic inside the thermal boundary of the home. By controlling air movement and stabilizing attic temperatures, the building performs more efficiently and HVAC systems operate in a much more favorable environment.
While attic floor insulation can still be appropriate in certain situations, insulating the roof deck is often the preferred approach, especially in homes with cathedral or vaulted ceilings, finished attic spaces, or rooms built within the roof structure.
Rodents and Attic Insulation
Attics are a common entry point for mice and other rodents. Loose insulation materials such as fiberglass and cellulose can easily become nesting areas once rodents enter the space.
When insulation is disturbed or contaminated, it often loses much of its insulating value and may need to be removed. Rodent activity can also shift insulation away from critical areas, creating gaps where heat and air pass more freely through the attic.
In addition to reducing insulation performance, rodent contamination can create unhealthy attic conditions, contributing to poor indoor air quality and increasing the potential for moisture or mold concerns.
Closed-cell spray foam insulation does not provide loose nesting material and helps seal many of the small gaps rodents commonly use to enter attic spaces, helping create a cleaner and more controlled attic environment.
